Today, Sunday 30th January saw all the Oswestry Girls Rugby teams host a pitch up and play at Granville Park.
Clare Hann, Head of Women’s and Girl’s Rugby took some time off the side line to share the afternoon:
“Wow and just wow – what a spectacular afternoon. We had 97 girls from across 6 clubs join us for an afternoon of fantastic rugby. The spectators well, they certainly were given a show to remember.
“The girls playing today were aged between U13 to U18 and were simply a credit to girls rugby. We were very proud of them all. The girls played with all the values and behaviours that rugby demands – Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and ‘Sportswoman ship’.
“ORFC now has over 50 girls in its mini and junior section which is phenomenal. We put all the hard work in on Monday night come rain hail or shine, and the end result of that hard work is the level of rugby seen today – just brilliant.
“Which brings me onto the ‘we put all the hard work…’ Organising these events takes a huge amount of time, enthusiasm and hard work. I am extremely lucky to have the support of some truly dedicated and amazing people. A huge thank you to my team managers, coaches, 1st aiders, our Men’s first team captain, a first team coach, 2nd team player, u15 and U17 boys team players, and the refreshment team – you make all this happen, thank you again.”
If any girls U9-U18 are interested in ‘trying’ rugby please do come along on a Monday night and give it a go. Everyone is welcome into the team and the ORFC club we will help you to fall in love with this wonderful sport if you haven’t already!
