Hope Church has been a thriving church based in Oswestry since the 1960’s.  It was formerly known as Carreg Llwyd Evangelical Church and was established on Laburnum Drive.  Over the last 8 years Hope Church has been planning a change of location for their church building, to the centre of Oswestry.  A couple of years ago a plot of land with shops was bought in the centre of town and construction of the new Hope Church building began at the start of this year.  The new Hope Church site is located near the Central Car Park.

Hope Church spokesperson Emma Bebb said, “Since it began over 50 years ago Hope Church has attracted many different people through its doors.  From local people to visitors from different countries.  Young families to the more mature generation.

“It has a congregation of about 100 people that meet at 10.30am every Sunday.  Some people connect with their on-line services on YouTube.  Just look up Hope Church Oswestry and you will find us. Hope also has a vibrant programme of clubs that happen throughout the week.”

Sticky Fingers:  a toddlers group

Lunch club:  a group that meet for lunch and exercise aimed at the more mature generation

Prospects:  a mid week group for people with additional needs.

Youth and kids clubs.

“Hope Church as always been involved in our local community.  Setting up projects in the town like a Christian Bookshop, the Kingswell Community Centre and the furniture store,  In recent years the Church has set up;

“Compass House, which is a home that supports a small group of young men back into independent living.  Offering support so people can find a way out of homelessness. Where there is always hope that circumstances and people can change.  Run in partnership with Green Pastures.

“Osbless where one week of the year is dedicated to local community projects that the church gets involved with.  Like gardening, cleaning graffiti in the town, helping people who need support.

“Dorcas project – teaches people to sew.  Giving them a skill which will enable them to make garments and have an income from the sale of those garments.”

“The desire to be involved in the community of Oswestry was a significant factor in the move of location for Hope Church.  We wanted to be more visible to the town.  A hub for the community that was more accessible.

“Already the site is being used as it includes the row of shops and offices of Market Gate.  As you walk along the Market Gate walkway you will also see a Dog groomers, hairdresser and Men’s clothing shop. Hope staff are settling into the office spaces alongside a care company that rents the larger upstairs spaces.   The toddlers group and other clubs use the other available downstairs rooms.  So there is plenty of space and lots going on.

“Over the last few weeks the steel structure for the new auditorium has started being built.  This will seat up to 300 people. This auditorium will be available for the community to use for other events and meetings. Attached to the auditorium space is a welcoming, open area where people can come and meet together for a chat and a coffee.”

Hope Church wants to encourage you to get in touch if you want any more details on its activities or want to know more about our new build.
