A lucky supporter of the Nightingale House Hospice Lottery is celebrating a £2,500 jackpot win, as the hospice marks 30 years since the lottery first launched on 26 January 1996.
Rosetta Bennet was delighted to receive the call in November 2025 confirming she had scooped the top prize.
Speaking about her win, Rosetta said:
“When I got the phone call, I honestly couldn’t believe it. I just kept saying ‘oh my gosh’.
“I never win anything, so to find out I’d won £2,500 from the Nightingale House Lottery was such a lovely surprise, especially just before Christmas.
“We’d only just booked a holiday, so it meant we could pay for that without worrying. It really was a wonderful day.”
However, Rosetta says the chance to win is not the main reason she plays.
“I don’t play the lottery for the prize money, I play it to give something back.
“Nightingale House Hospice has cared for members of my family, and the support and kindness we saw there was unbelievable.
“The staff and facilities were fantastic. It was like a hotel.
“The support my family received from the hospice made such a difference at a really difficult time.
“You never know when you might need a place like Nightingale House, so supporting the lottery feels like an easy way to help make sure it’s there for everyone who needs it.”
Rosetta’s story comes during a landmark year for the hospice, as 2026 marks 30 years of the Nightingale House Lottery. Since its launch in January 1996, the lottery has become one of the hospice’s most important and dependable sources of income.
With only around 20 percent of funding coming from statutory sources, proceeds from the lottery play a vital role in helping the hospice continue to provide specialist palliative and end of life care, free of charge, to patients and families across the local community.
Every ticket sold contributes towards services including inpatient care, outpatient clinics, the wellbeing programme, complementary therapy, rehabilitation and family support. It is a small weekly contribution that, when combined with thousands of others, makes a significant and lasting impact on local families facing life limiting and progressive conditions.
As Nightingale House Hospice celebrates three decades of its lottery, stories like Rosetta’s highlight the dual impact of playing, offering supporters the chance to win cash prizes while directly supporting compassionate care close to home.
