Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is appealing for Advocacy volunteers across the Oswestry area, to address an increasing waiting list in the area of older people requesting this service.

The Charity, is particularly looking for people in the Oswestry and surrounding areas, to support older people on a one to one basis either in person or over the telephone, helping to resolve an identified problem. Volunteers should be car drivers and prepared to travel.

Heather Osborne, Chief Executive Officer of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said:

‘Volunteer Advocates seek out as much information as possible about a particular issue to enable the older person they are supporting to make an informed choice on how they wish the issue to be approached. They then support and assist the older person by making telephone calls, writing letters, attending meetings, to try to resolve the issue in their chosen way.

‘Our volunteers come from all walks of life. They may be newly retired from the world of work or in part-time work and looking to do something positive in their community. Volunteering can be incredibly rewarding. We offer training, expenses and on-going support to ensure all our volunteers are confident and happy in their roles.’
