The 1165 (Oswestry) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets are set to hold a 24-hour spinathon from 5th to 6th September to raise vital funds in support of both their squadron and the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA). The event will see cadets and staff cycling non-stop for a full 24 hours to raise money, with funds split between the two worthy causes.
The funds raised for the squadron will directly support the cadets’ participation in a range of activities and events, including adventure training camps, annual visits to RAF bases, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, sports, road marching, and many more. The money will ensure that these valuable opportunities remain accessible to all cadets, regardless of their financial background.
“We want to provide all of our cadets with the opportunity to take part in events that not only help them develop essential life skills but also encourage teamwork, resilience, and personal growth,” said a spokesperson for 1165 (Oswestry) Squadron. “By raising funds, we can reduce the costs associated with these activities, making them more accessible to everyone.”
The second portion of the funds raised will go towards supporting the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA). RAFA is dedicated to supporting the RAF community, including serving and ex-serving personnel and their families. The money will contribute to the charity’s mission of providing crucial welfare support, financial aid, and advocacy to those who have served in the RAF.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with the RAF Association on this event,” added the spokesperson. “Their work is indispensable in supporting our veterans, and we’re proud to contribute to their mission.”
