Preparations are stepping up for the annual Derwen Sponsored walk and Fun Run which takes place near Oswestry this Sunday (31st March)

Students and staff are gearing up for the annual 10k walk which starts at 11am from the Gobowen college for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. This year, the college is also expecting runners from the community to join the event as it launches its first 10k Fun Run.

With a sunny spring day forecast, organisers are hoping for bumper attendance for the walk and run which takes place on Mothering Sunday.

All walkers and runners will receive complimentary home-made soup and a hot drink on finishing. Derwen College’s Orangery Restaurant will be serving Sunday lunches (booking essential) and the Garden Café will also be providing breakfasts and lunches to hungry walkers.

This is the college’s 52nd annual walk, and one of its biggest fundraisers of the year. Money raised from the walk will go towards Derwen College.

Fundraiser Anna Evans said that everything was coming together well for the walk and fun run, and the forecast looked perfect.

“We’re expecting a good turnout of walkers and runners from the community for this spring event. Students have produced Start and Finish banners and have been busy creating medals for all the walkers and runners. We hope that with the introduction of the fun run, and with support from local people, 2019 will be another successful fundraising event.”
