Trefonen Hillwalk began in 1991 when a walk was planned from Trefonen village to the top of Mynydd Myfyr. A milk churn was placed at the top of the hill for donations.
Over the years the event has escalated into a fundraising weekend. The Hillwalk takes place over the May Spring bank holiday with different activities planned for all the family, raising money for different charities, one UK based and one overseas.
This year’s chosen charities are:
Severn Hospice
Medecins Sans Frontiers
Offa Community Support Group – Trefonen
Activities that are planned will include walks for all ages and abilities, a murder mystery night, hill run, duck race, quiz, motorcycle trial, football golf and bingo.
Highlands to Home: This year, there’s a special challenge being undertaken by Neil Owen, who is planning to ride his mountain bike from Aviemore, Scotland back to the village of Trefonen over 7 days. Neil is fundraising for Severn Hospice and donations can be me via his Just Giving page – search for Highlands to Home.
The Scarecrows are back! This year, lots of requests have meant the scarecrows are coming back to the village. This event has proved popular in the past, so people are invited to make a scarecrow and display it on the village green in Trefonen for everyone to enjoy. There’s even a prize for the winning scarecrow!
