Borderland Rotary are helping a local student at the Derwen college to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award scheme.
The club welcomed Anna Evans from the Derwen to update members on the progress of the young lady, who hails from Pant.
Anna explained that the awards scheme was run in the normal way, but entrants from the college generally needed more preparation and guidance, depending on individual requirements.
Anna said, “It’s great to see the progress of the students and the self-confidence build as they complete each task – which are by no means easy, but luckily our staff are used to guiding people through the D of E Awards as the college has been involved in the scheme for more than 10 years.
“I must thank Borderland for their enthusiasm – and of course, money – we couldn’t do these things without the help of groups such as yourselves”. Anna went on to say that 35 students have achieved Gold and awards over the last decade, with another 14 in this year’s scheme, more than a usual, another consequence of Covid.
