Borderland Rotary recently welcomed Chris Toller of Henstone Distillery to the Sweeney Hotel, where members enjoyed an informative talk accompanied by a whisky tasting.

Chris reflected on his previous visit to the club in 2016, when Henstone Distillery was in its early stages. At that time, the team was focused on understanding government alcohol duty regulations and developing a high-quality English whisky. Since then, the business has expanded significantly and now produces a diverse range of spirits, including whisky, gin, vodka, rum and an American-style bourbon. The distillery has also earned multiple awards across a number of categories.

Now based at Dingle Farm, Trewern, near Welshpool, Henstone Distillery occupies a unique position straddling the English–Welsh border. During his visit, Chris announced plans to launch a Welsh whisky, which will be distilled on the Welsh side of the border.

Chris also highlighted the family nature of the business, which includes his wife Alexandra, son Henry and daughter Flo, supported by one non-family team member.

Looking to the future, he expressed his enthusiasm for the ongoing journey of the distillery and indicated that the new Welsh whisky could be ready within the next four to five years. Henstone Distillery will continue to produce its award-winning English spirits alongside this new venture.
