The British Ironwork Centre is to create a statue replicating the story of King Midas!
The Myth of King Midas depicts the Kings gift of turning everything he touches to Gold, which later turns out to be a curse.
The Ironworks have commissioned theatrical designer and set maker, Debbie Rees Deacon, in creating the sculpture said to ‘gleam’ with 1000 brand new pound coins.
Debbie, is going to be project managing the design and she has said it’s the oddest and most costly singular object she’s worked on to date.
The sculpture’s face is currently being designed by a sculptor based in Kent who is a close friend of Debbie’s. Andrew Blake is a theatrical prosthetics and masks specialist, Mormid Masks.
The crown that will sit on the King Midas Statue’s head and will be encrusted with £2 coins.
The statue is expected to be ready for visitors to see at The Ironworks Halloween Spooktacular on Friday 27th October.
