A breast cancer survivor who ran a Race for Life exactly two years after the day that she was diagnosed with the disease, beat her target time and helped to raise more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Delyth Underwood, assistant practice manager at one of the area’s leading law firms, was joined by 12 work colleagues from the Wrexham and Oswestry offices of GHP Legal at the event which took place at Llay.
Delyth began running as part of her recovery programme to rebuild strength following months of gruelling treatment. Her aim was to run 5km and prior to Sunday’s event her best time was 31 minutes. However, urged on by the colleagues, friends and family who had sponsored her she achieved the distance in 28 minutes.
“I felt exhausted but exhilarated,” said Delyth afterwards. “My colleagues at GHP Legal have been so supportive, especially those who put their running shoes on and joined me, and I am so grateful to them and my friends and family.
“Between us, with gift aid, we have so far raised £2162 for Cancer Research UK from the run and there is still some pledged money to come in. We did this run for fellow staff members, family and friends and everyone who has undergone or is currently undergoing treatment for cancer.”
