The Marches School Sixth Form students have been on the receiving end of several hugely beneficial careers-based talks in recent weeks.

The school has welcomed talks from the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, the University Centre Shrewsbury, Qube Music Workshop and Cambridge University in recent weeks.

Tom Howells from the Shropshire Wildlife Trust visited to discuss the range of careers that are available right here on the doorstep of our students, with careers in marketing and the media, as well as more traditional, outdoor careers that are available in the trust.

The University Centre, Shrewsbury were represented by Elizabeth O’Brien and Elly Vesty, who came to speak to students about courses and careers in science.

Alex Keir and Jonathan Jones, both alumni of the Marches Sixth Form, who are now studying at Cambridge visited their former school, and spoke to current students about the application process of applying for a top university like Cambridge, the grade requirements of studying there and what life was like in university.

The Sixth Form students were also visited by Adrian Plant; a percussionist, vocalist, guitarist and Community Arts Member, and Kate Turley; a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, writer and producer to talk about careers in music.

Mrs Claire Boyes, Head of Sixth Form at the Marches School, commented: “Here at the Marches, we aim to give our students a clear and definitive career path by giving them several options and alternatives to ensure that their dreams can become a reality. The visitors we welcome here to give talks to our students are carefully selected and highly beneficial to them and the career paths that they can choose to pursue”.

With a focus on nurturing and developing students’ career paths, the Marches School Sixth Form is determined that its students will leave with a strong idea and purpose of heading in the career direction of their choosing when their time at the Marches comes to a close.
