Cae Glas Cricket Club’s first dedicated Charity Day has successfully raised £346 for Hope House Children’s Hospices.
Earlier this season, the club announced that it would adopt a charity partner, with Saturday, 4 July designated as its inaugural fundraising day in support of Hope House.
All match fees paid by players representing the club’s first and second teams in their fixtures against Welshpool and Harcourt were donated to Hope House. The money will support a sponsored Wing Walk being undertaken by Beth Griffiths, Branch Manager of Monks Estate Agents in Oswestry, later this month.
The fundraising total was boosted by a collection held during the club’s Open Day at Gatacre on Sunday, 5 July, where members, supporters and the local community celebrated the 10th anniversary of the reopening of the pavilion following its major refurbishment during the winter of 2015/16.
Additional support came from the club’s shirt sponsor, General Building Plastics Ltd (GBP). CEO Matt Wedderkopp generously pledged to donate £1 for every run scored by batter Andy Kemp and £10 for every wicket taken by second-team captain Gaz Overthrow during the Harcourt fixture, further increasing the fundraising total.
The final amount of £346 was presented by Beth Griffiths to Louise Bowen, Fundraising Administrator at Hope House Children’s Hospices, at Gatacre Pavilion on Sunday, 12 July. The presentation took place in front of the club’s young All Stars and Dynamos players.
Cae Glas Cricket Club plans to hold further Charity Days throughout the season in support of Hope House. The next event will mark the end of the cricket season, when player and groundsman Ian Moult will undertake a sponsored walk from Hope House, Morda, to Tŷ Gobaith, Groesynydd, Conwy.
