Members of Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir are preparing to swap the stage for the sky as they take on a 100mph zipline challenge to raise funds for a life-changing children’s charity.
On 9 May, a group of choristers will travel to Penrhyn Quarry to ride the Velocity Zipline, one of the fastest ziplines in the world, reaching speeds of up to 100mph.
The challenge is being undertaken in support of The Movement Centre, which helps children with movement disabilities gain independence through specialist Targeted Training therapy.
For nearly 30 years the charity has supported children to develop essential motor skills – from holding their head up, to sitting, standing, and in some cases taking their very first steps.
The choir has set a fundraising target of £4,000 but want to exceed that, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting the charity’s work, which relies entirely on donations.
Among those taking part are Joel Whitaker, Mark Walmsley, Simon Atkinson, Roger Williams, Gordon Urquhart, Ray Jones, Ken Benbow, Rob Edwards, Gareth Edwards, Graham Kendall and Paul Healey.

Simon, the choirs Press Officer said:
“We’re used to performing in front of audiences, but this is something completely different. It’s a real test of nerve, but we’re proud to be doing it for such an important cause. If we can help even one child access life-changing therapy, it will be worth it.”
Supporters are being encouraged to donate and help the group reach and exceed their fundraising target.
Curtis, Fundraising Lead at The Movement Centre
“When Simon from the Fron Choir got in touch with me to tell me members wanted to take on the Zipwire Challenge, I was truly amazed. We have worked with the choir over many years, booking them for concerts, but this will be a new challenge for them. The Movement Centre rely on the kind support of the community, and we are delighted to have the choirs support. I would urge anyone wanting to take part in the Zipwire to get in touch with us at The Movement Centre.”
