Rural housing group Connexus is supporting free school holiday activity sessions for children from the Ellesmere area in partnership with The New Saints FC Foundation.

Connexus has given a grant of £3,000 to support the half term activities at Ellesmere Primary School on Friday, May 31 run by the foundation which is the charity arm of Oswestry’s TNS Football Club. The fun sessions will cater for youngsters from four to 12 years from 10am to 12noon.

The grant will also cover free summer holiday activities at Ellesmere Primary School throughout the summer holidays for four mornings a week over six weeks in July and August for the same age range.

Connexus will also be supporting similar holiday sessions at Ellesmere Primary School in the autumn half term and winter holidays.

The summer and winter holiday sessions are run as part of the Department for Education (DfE) funded Shropshire Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme which runs multi activity events for eligible children of all abilities.

Gill Jones of The New Saints FC Foundation said that the events would be packed with fun activities, sports and games all supported by qualified and DBS checked sports activity coaches and support workers.

She explained that funding for the Shropshire Holiday Activities and Food programme was provided for eligible children and young people but thanks to support from local funders such as Connexus the Foundation was able to extend the offer of free places to all children and young people living in the area.

“We are very grateful to Connexus for their generous grant which enables us to provide these free holiday sessions. We have 40 places available at Ellesmere Primary School at half term and 55 places per day for the summer programme with booking essential for both,” she said.
