Talented students and a musical governor from Derwen College, near Oswestry, are in the spotlight once again with a spectacular fundraising concert at The Holroyd Community Theatre.
‘Remember When – A Night of Music Through the Years’ will take place at The Holroyd in Weston Rhyn on Friday, 20 June. The event promises an evening of musical favourites spanning the decades, with all proceeds going to support students with special educational needs and disabilities, specifically those on the Performing Arts pathway.
The concert will feature the college’s inspiring Performing Arts students alongside Derwen College Governor and local entertainer Mark Lord, who will perform with his band, Take Five. Guests can expect a feel-good medley of hits from the 1960s to the present day, guaranteed to have the audience singing along.
Fresh from standing ovations in their summer show, Grease, students are ready to wow again, showcasing their singing and dancing talents.
Mark Lord first held a charity concert in 2022 to celebrate his 60th birthday. The inaugural event raised over £3,000 and was such a success that it has become an annual tradition.
“We’ve loved every minute of these concerts,” said Mark. “The audience reaction has been incredible, and the Derwen College students always steal the show. We can’t wait to share a fantastic programme of music with everyone once again.”
The evening will start at 6:30pm with drinks and canapés served by the College’s Hospitality and Food students, followed by the performance at 7pm. Tickets are priced at £13 and include a welcome drink and refreshments on arrival.
There will also be a raffle with amazing prizes, including a £200 Polka Dot Travel voucher, a £100 Owen’s Travel voucher, and a Spa Afternoon for two at The Lion Quays Hotel & Spa, Weston Rhyn.
Events Coordinator and Community Fundraiser Meg Charman thanked Mark, Take Five and the Performing Arts team for their continued support for Derwen Charity.
She said: “We are so grateful to governor Mark for the time and effort he puts into these fundraising events, raising money to provide additional opportunities for our Performing Arts students. Thanks also to the incredible Performing Arts team, and to our Hospitality and Food students and staff who serve refreshments. This year’s event promises to be another fabulous evening of entertainment, and there are some brilliant prizes to be won on the raffle, too.”
