A dedicated member of staff at Oswestry’s specialist orthopaedic hospital has been recognised with the RJAH Stars Award for her exceptional commitment in supporting patient flow during the challenging winter period.

Pauline Hughes, Discharge Coordinator at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, won the award for her outstanding efforts in managing complex discharges and maintaining a seamless patient journey.

The RJAH Stars Award is presented monthly to individuals and teams who are nominated by their colleagues for going above and beyond.

Pauline, who is part of the team on Sheldon Ward, the general medicine and rehabilitation ward at the Oswestry-based hospital, was nominated by the ward’s Therapy Team.

On behalf of the wider team, Laura-Jane Coldwell, Therapy Team Lead, said: “Pauline has always stood out as an exemplary member of the Sheldon Team. She is proactive, organised, forward thinking and all while keeping a cool head!

“When Kenyon Ward created sub-acute beds over Christmas, Pauline really shone. Her commitment to her job, the team and the Trust was outstanding. She went above and beyond, and her effort and hard work was not unnoticed.

“She demonstrated leadership and excellent communication on some very tricky discharges while in the face of increased pressures for beds.

“Thank you, Pauline, for being excellent at what you do.”

On receiving her award, Pauline said: “I’m honoured to receive this award, but it’s really a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire team.

“It’s a privilege to work alongside such fantastic colleagues.”

Chief Executive Stacey Keegan presented a keepsake certificate, voucher and box of chocolates – donated by the League of Friends – to the team.

Stacey said: “Pauline’s commitment to supporting patient flow across the hospital is truly commendable.

“Her hard work during this time really made a real difference to patients and colleagues. Thank you, Pauline, for your incredible work.”
