A large crowd turned out in Ellesmere for the annual Remembrance Sunday parade and church service.
Representing The King, Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire Mrs Diana Flint led the march to the town’s war memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony and two minutes’ silence in the grounds of St Mary’s parish church.
She was accompanied by the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Liz Woodbridge and other members of the town council, together with representatives of the local branch of the Royal British Legion and the armed forces. Many other community organisations also took part in the wreath-laying together with representatives of the armed forces. Many other organisations also took part in the wreath-laying before the Vicar of Ellesmere, the Rev Pat Hawkins conducted a remembrance service inside the church
Legion branch chairman Bob McBride said: “In this year when we’ve done so much to celebrate and commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the 2nd World War, we were vey heartened to see so many people taking part. The turn-out from our local youth organisations, including the Army Cadets, Guides, Scouts, Cubs and Brownies was particularly impressive. Ellesmere should be very proud of them.”
