One of the biggest crowds for several years turned out in bright sunshine for Ellesmere’s traditional Remembrance Sunday parade and church service.
Representing The King, Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire Mrs Diana Flint led the march to the town’s war memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony and two minutes’ silence in the grounds of St Mary’s parish church.

She was accompanied by the Mayor, members of the town council and the local branch of the Royal British Legion, together with representatives of the armed forces. The church service was conducted by the vicar, the Rev. Pat Hawkins.

Legion branch chairman Bob McBride said: “Last year’s remembrance ceremony had to be curtailed because of bad weather and it was heartening and to see so many people taking part this time, especially those from youth organisations, including the Guides, Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, and Army Cadets.”

Dozens of people gathered in Ellesmere town centre on Monday morning to observe two minutes’ silence at 11 o’clock, marking Armistice Day.
