The organisers of Ellesmere’s Winter Festival say this year’s event will be ‘bigger and better than ever’.

Preparations are well-advanced for a spectacular evening of family activities filled with festive fun, music, Christmas shopping opportunities and other attractions on Friday, November 29.

The festival is organised by the Project SY12 community interest company in partnership with local traders and other local organisations.

“This a key highlight in Ellesmere’s events calendar,” said managing director Alex ‘AJ’ Hunter.   “It draws visitors from all across Shropshire and the Welsh border and it’s getting bigger and bigger every year.

“We’re thrilled to see more traders, new shops in the town centre and an ever-growing list of festive attractions that make it a magical experience for everyone.

“The market hall will be packed with stalls offering handcrafted gifts, seasonal treats and a wide-variety of artisan goods, while members of Ellesmere Carnival Committee ensure that children enjoy an unforgettable visit from the Man in Red in Santa’s grotto.

This year’s festival will also feature the traditional switch-on of the Christmas illuminations, with the Tree of Light, as centrepiece of the event, managed by members of Ellesmere Rotary Club raising money for local charities.

This will be followed by a captivating Christmas lantern parade through the town centre, co-ordinated by the Fizzgigs community  arts group, which is organising community lantern-making sessions n the run-up to the festival. .

Other attractions will include a Ferris wheel in the main car park offering aerial views of the bustling scene below.

Visitors are being invited to vote for their favourite Christmas shop window display via the Ellesmere Pulse app, which provides full details of the event with more information also available at https:// www.ellesmere.info
