A member of the Finance team at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital has been announced as February’s winner of the Health Hero Award for stepping up during a challenging time for colleagues.

Andrew Williams, Finance Business Partner for the Clinical Services Unit, has recently stepped up to cover the sickness absence of friend and colleague, Dominic Rayner. Andrew has gone above and beyond to ensure the needs and support of the unit were met.

He was nominated by Victoria Brownrigg, Head of Financial Management and Planning, who said: “Andrew has been working long hours to support the unit.

“Due to Covid restrictions, this has been mostly home working, which presents challenges in terms of support and colleague interaction.

“He has stepped out of his comfort zone to work with colleagues to deliver financial challenges for the unit and support operational colleagues in key decision making. His efforts have been recognised by the department and we would all like to thank him.”

The monthly award is presented to unsung heroes from across the hospital who are nominated by their colleagues for going the extra mile.

Andrew said: “For someone that does not take recognition very easily it came as a nice surprise to receive the Health Hero Award, I can honestly say I was not expecting it!

“It has given me that extra bit of encouragement in what remains a challenging and difficult time in Finance with guidelines changing daily.

“It has been a big step outside of my comfort zone to help cover a more senior member of staff. This could not be done without the help of my hardworking and professional colleagues.”

He was presented his award, consisting of a keepsake certificate, special badge and box of chocolates donated by the League of Friends, by Dr Ruth Longfellow, Chief Medical Officer.

Ruth said: “It’s lovely to give recognition to a member of staff who does so much for the hospital behind the scenes. Our administrative staff, who have been working from home for a long time to allow for more clinical space on site, deserve a tremendous amount of thanks.

“He is an extremely worthy winner, and I am delighted to announce him as February’s Health Hero.”
