A special afternoon of live music in support of Hope House Children’s Hospices will take place on Sunday, July 5, from 2pm to 6pm at the Ebenezer Gallery, Cefn Mawr.

‘Gals with Guitars’ is a free-entry fundraising event celebrating talented female performers from across the local area. Organised by well-known Oswestry musician and charity event organiser Jenny La Femme Guitare (Jenny Harris-White), the event brings together a collective of female artists for an afternoon of diverse acoustic music, friendship, and community spirit.

Jenny said:
“Apart from our mutual love of music, being friends, and all being known locally, we are always keen to play for charity functions — and none better than Hope House.”

The event has been made possible thanks to the generosity of Dave Metcalfe of the Holly Bush Inn, who has donated the use of the delightful Ebenezer Gallery free of charge for the occasion.

Jenny La Femme Guitare will perform an imaginative and mellow set featuring mostly cover songs delivered in her distinctive finger-picking guitar style, alongside a selection of sing-along favourites and original material. She will be joined throughout the afternoon by a line-up of talented female musicians, including:

  • Sonya Barry Smith – A Welsh singer-songwriter known for emotive lyrics and a distinctive voice, blending contemporary folk and blues influences. Sonya has appeared at festivals and events including Ludlow Fringe, Farmer Phil’s, Landed Festival, Llangollen Fringe, and the International Musical Eisteddfod field stages.
  • Sue Box – A performer who believes music is “therapy for both the listener and the performer.” Sue learned guitar during the Covid lockdown through online tutorials and now enjoys sharing well-loved cover songs to help support worthy causes.
  • Lauren Kynaston – The youngest performer on the bill, Lauren is an Oswestry-based acoustic singer in her 20s who has been performing locally for around a decade. Her repertoire spans country, modern pop, and a wide variety of popular genres.
  • Teresa Dale – Performing both cover songs and original material, Teresa brings romantic and reflective acoustic performances with a minimalist guitar style. She also has many years of experience singing in choirs across a range of musical genres.
  • Vicki Jeffries – Inspired by a relatively new passion for guitar, Vicki has quickly become part of the local music scene. Her eclectic setlist includes folk, rock, punk, and pop songs from the 1960s through to today.

The organisers hope the event will not only raise valuable funds for Hope House but also celebrate the strength and creativity of female musicians within the local community.

Admission is free, with donations warmly welcomed throughout the afternoon.
