A new creative initiative is bringing theatre and performance opportunities to the people of Gobowen and Oswestry. The Gobowen Theatre Group, founded by theatre professional and creative entrepreneur Justin Teddy Cliffe, is launching weekly drama workshops for children, teenagers, and adults under the banner PLAY/MAKE/DO, alongside funded trips to major theatre venues.
The scheme, designed to foster creativity, confidence, and community spirit, is being piloted at the Gobowen Scout Hut. The workshops are open to anyone, regardless of experience, and aim to provide a safe, inspiring space to explore performance, storytelling, and creative collaboration.
Justin Teddy Cliffe, founder of the Gobowen Theatre Group, said:
“For the last three years I’ve been directing the Gobowen Pantomime at the Working Men’s Club, alongside a group of incredibly talented local volunteers. Through doing this, I saw the potential of offering more opportunities for people in the village to get involved.”
Workshop Details:
-
PLAY (ages 8–12): Encouraging young participants to channel their natural playfulness into creativity, make friends, and build confidence through performance. (20 places available)
-
MAKE (ages 13–18): Designed for teenagers to hone creative thinking, explore identity, and co-create devised theatre performances. (20 places available)
-
DO (ages 18+): Adult participants can learn new skills, reconnect with old ones, meet new people, and create public performances while having fun. (20 places available)
Taster sessions will be held on Monday 26th January, Monday 2nd February, and Monday 9th February at the Gobowen Scout Hut.
The programme also includes GO/SEE theatre trips running from Spring to Autumn, giving participants the chance to experience live performances at major venues. Funding for the initiative comes from the Silo Central Youth and Community Commission, with additional support from local Green Councillor Craig Emery.
