Following two days of talks, demonstrations, money saving tips, feedback on environmental priorities and a people’s assembly, Whittington Castle’s Green Fair has been deemed a great success by the organisers.

Jonjo Evans, Chair of trustees and the Castle’s eco group said:

‘We most definitely touched a chord and could not have been more delighted with the contribution to and feedback after our second Green Fair.  From a kitchen@thecastle menu based around foraged items, a river simulation, eco-friendly projects, block printing, hand made bird boxes, darning mushrooms to up cycling clothes there was something for everyone.  We were especially impressed by the young people we met.  If we have more like Imogen – aged only five – and Ethan, we will be in good hands.  Our quiz proved to be a real eye-opener and lifestyle changer.  I am sure the length of time people spend in the shower will now significantly reduce!’

Visitors were also invited to prioritise a number of activities to support the environment in north Shropshire/Welsh borders. These ranged from better education, incentives for car sharing, more allotments and achieving zero carbon status. The results are currently being analysed and will be shared in due course.  Over 30 money saving tips were suggested proving that we are already doing much to protect the environment and save money.

The Castle is already planning its 2023 event and invites interested participants to get in touch: secretary@whittingtoncastle.co.uk.  We will be putting our environment quiz on our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/OfficialWhittingtonCastle/
