A team of Librarians at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital have been named Health Heroes – after supporting staff through their studies.
The efforts of the team were so appreciated by Megan Evans and Jodie Rogers, MRI/CT Radiographers, that they nominated them for the Oswestry-based hospital’s Health Hero Award.
The Library and Knowledge Team at RJAH provide a wide range of services to staff and students, including training on a variety of topics; assisting with literature searching; providing inter-library lending to ensure requests are met; providing journal club assistance; and working hard to support through their enquiry service.
Megan said: “The librarians are so kind and knowledgeable, and genuinely want to see you do well in whatever you’re studying. I couldn’t be more grateful for the support they provide.”
Jodie added: “Thank you to all the team for their support. No request is ever too much, and their advice is extremely helpful and much appreciated.”
The monthly award is presented to unsung heroes from across the hospital who are nominated by their colleagues for going the extra mile.
Karen James, Library Technician, said: “This is such a lovely, unexpected surprise. We are very thankful for the nomination, and we appreciate it very much.
“We are here to support all RJAH staff; trainees; placement students and volunteers with research enquiries and information requests.”
Yvonne Ankers, Outreach Librarian, added: “We also support staff with evidence-based practice and continuing professional development. I echo what Karen said, we are very thankful for our nomination.”
The team were presented with their award, consisting of a keepsake certificate, special badge and box of chocolates donated by the League of Friends, by Stacey Keegan, the hospital’s Chief Executive.
Stacey said: “It was great to be able to visit one of our teams to give them a much-deserved award for all their hard work.
“This nomination is just one example of the level of appreciation for the Library and Knowledge Service at the Trust. It is great to see the team praised for the fantastic support they provide to all staff.”
