North Shropshire MP, Helen Morgan will visit the Lyneal Trust on Friday 29 May to meet spinal injury patients from The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital during a canal trip on the Llangollen Canal near Ellesmere.

The Lyneal Trust has provided holidays and day trips for disabled people and those with additional needs for more than 40 years. Throughout the year, the charity takes patients from the hospital’s spinal injuries ward on trips aboard its specially adapted accessible narrow boat.

Patients who have joined previous visits said the experience of getting away from the hospital and spending time in nature showed them “anything is possible with the right support”.

Helen Morgan, MP for North Shropshire and Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Spinal Injuries, will meet patients, staff and Lyneal Trust volunteers during the visit.

Helen said:

“Disability should not be a barrier to enjoying the outdoors, and the benefits of being next to water and in the countryside are well proven. The Lyneal Trust provides a wonderful opportunity for people with disabilities and special needs to connect with nature and enjoy valuable respite from hospital.”
