INTune Radio, the community radio station for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, is calling on the support from local communities and businesses for an exciting local initiative to empower young voices and air their views through a dedicated radio show.
The campaign, launched via the Spacehive crowdfunding platform, has already raised over £5,000 with generous backing from local councils, businesses and the community. INTune Radio is now just £3,000 away from its £8,000 goal to launch a new weekly radio magazine show, which will empower students from schools across Shropshire to tackle issues that matter to them, share their thoughts with peers, and gain confidence by being on-air.
With the campaign closing on 4th January 2025, time is running out to secure the final £3,000 needed to bring this exciting project to life. Last weekend, INTune Radio had the pleasure of welcoming Julia Buckley, MP for Shrewsbury, to the station. She was joined by local singer Amy Owen for a live performance and learned more about the radio project’s potential to give young people across Shropshire the chance to air their views and discuss important community issues.
Wayne Flynn, founder of INTune Radio, says, “We appreciate that Christmas time might not be the easiest time to ask for donations, but it is such a worthy project. We’ve come so far in such a short time and a little more help from the local community and businesses would be so much appreciated to help young voices get on the radio across the county. With just £3,000 left to raise, your support will make a lasting impact by giving young voices the platform they deserve”
The funds raised will go towards a pilot project to produce a weekly show, project coordination, audio training for schoolteachers, and purchasing the necessary equipment, including microphones, cables and laptops. It will provide students with invaluable experience in radio broadcasting and the longer-term aim is to get the initiative established in more Shropshire schools during 2025.
The public is encouraged to visit the campaign page at https://www.spacehive.com/help-school-students-share-their-views to learn more about the project and contribute.
If businesses wish to get involved with the project via advertising, event coverage and interviews this can be arranged; please email Wayne at info@intune-radio.co.uk
