Heritage Open Days, England’s largest festival of history and culture, is back this September, and Oswestry has a great programme of free events up for residents and visitors alike.
Run by thousands of local volunteers and organisations across the country, the annual festival brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history at some of England’s most treasured buildings. This year’s celebration runs from 11 to 20 September, with the theme “Everyday Stories.”
The Oswestry programme includes guided walks and tours, talks, a rare opportunity to look inside the Grade I listed Llwyd Mansion, special displays at Oswestry Town Museum, and outings to local heritage railways.
Mark Hignett, Curator at Oswestry Town Museum and festival champion, said: “There is so much to love about Oswestry, and this heritage festival is a brilliant opportunity to explore our local heritage – and it’s all free.”

Printed copies of the programme are available to pick up at the Guildhall, Oswestry Town Museum, Oswestry Visitor Centre located in the indoor market, and Oswestry Library.
