Spring has arrived, bringing brighter days, blooming gardens and the perfect excuse to get outdoors with the family. This Easter, National Trust Cymru is inviting visitors to enjoy fun-filled Easter egg trails at three much-loved local destinations: Chirk Castle and Garden, Erddig Hall and Garden and Powis Castle and Garden.

Each location offers a unique, family-friendly trail designed to spark curiosity, encourage outdoor play and celebrate the beauty of spring.

At Chirk Castle and Garden, families can explore 5.5 acres of colourful gardens while taking part in a lively Easter egg hunt. Along the way, little adventurers can tackle a series of hands-on challenges, from racing through musical bluebells to testing their memory skills. The adventure continues inside the historic castle, where visitors can step back in time in the medieval Adam Tower, try on armour and even brave the atmospheric dungeon.

At Erddig Hall and Garden, the Easter trail is inspired by the estate’s fascinating animal-themed collection. Families can follow a scenic route through the gardens, taking on playful challenges such as ringing the cowbell, balancing like a turtle and completing a giant egg-and-spoon race. For those with energy to spare, the nearby Wolf’s Den natural play area offers even more opportunities for adventure, with den building, rope swings and balance trails set within a beautiful outdoor space.

Meanwhile, at Powis Castle and Garden in Welshpool, visitors can discover one of Wales’ most spectacular gardens as they follow an action-packed trail through the famous Italianate terraces and formal grounds. Along the route, families can enjoy a range of energetic games and challenges designed to get everyone moving. Inside the castle, the fun continues as children search for colourful hidden eggs among the grand and historic State Rooms.

Easter egg trails at Chirk Castle and Erddig run from 21 March to 12 April, while Powis Castle hosts its trail from 27 March to 12 April. Admission fees apply (free for National Trust members), with an additional £3.50 per trail, which includes a trail sheet, bunny ears and a chocolate egg, with vegan and allergy-friendly options available.

With plenty of opportunities for exploration, play and discovery, these local Easter trails offer a wonderful way for families to make the most of the spring season.
