More than a year since it held its last fundraising event where people could attend, Hope House Children’s Hospices is planning to hold its annual Llangollen Canal Walk in March.
The event, which has raised more than £110,000 since its inception 11 years ago, was actually the last time the charity was able to hold a live event, with all the fundraising since forced to move to a virtual platform.
There will be limited numbers for the event on Sunday, March 28 which sees walkers take in the stunning Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, beautiful canal-side scenery and wildlife. All walkers will receive a unique medal which have generously been sponsored by Net World Sports.
The walk, which costs £10 for adults and £5 for children, will begin at The Trevor Basin in the morning, then taking in five miles of stunning scenery up to the Poachers’ Pocket and back again.
The walk will be socially distanced with staggered groups and those taking part will be asked to follow Government guidance and remain mindful of social distancing while on the route.
For those who would prefer to complete a 10-mile walk virtually and close to home then tickets are also available for that option too.
Fundraiser Cat Dowdeswell said: “It’s going to have been a full year since we held a physical fundraising event and what a fitting way to hopefully start them again.
“It will be a different event to last year given the limited numbers and social distancing measures that will in place, but after such a long time it’s sure to be a memorable one. Tickets are likely to go quickly for this one so make sure you sign up online.”
Participants are asked to raise sponsorship to help the hospices make a real difference to seriously ill children and families supported by Hope House Children’s Hospices.
