The Holroyd Community Theatre in Weston Rhyn will play host to a group of opera singers from across the globe. The vocalists are members of the North Wales Opera Studio, headed up by critically acclaimed local opera singer, Anne Williams-King. As a singer, Anne has performed in some of the world’s most impressive opera houses including The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the world-famous, Glyndebourne.

Rehearsals are in full swing for the company’s production of Madame Butterfly, which is directed by Mrs Williams-King and fellow international opera singer, David Bartleet.

Speaking ahead of the performance, Mrs Williams-King said: “I am really encouraged by what we have done so far. This group of singers have the most extraordinary voices and a natural ability to tell a story – which is so important in opera. The singers have travelled across the globe to get here; we have performers from China, Greece, India, Spain, Italy and of course Wales.

“If you haven’t been to the opera recently, or ever before, I can’t recommend this one enough. The music is just beautiful, the costumes are bright and we’re in the most beautiful setting. You will have a great night.”

This production will be accompanied by live instruments and conducted by seasoned maestro, Mr Peter Crockford. Much like the directors of the production, Mr Crockford has a wealth of experience spanning from conducting for the BBC, Glyndebourne and The Welsh National Opera.

Speaking about the music, conductor Mr Crockford said: “The understanding and humanity that Pucuni manages to create in this opera is amazing. Audiences will get the glory and the tragedy of the story through the music, without doubt.”

Madam Butterfly is one of opera’s most enduring tales of unrequited love. Puccini’s poignant score follows the tragic tale of Cio Cio San, a young Japanese girl who falls in love with American naval officer Pinkerton, with devastating consequences.

The production begins on Thursday the 8th of September and runs through to Saturday the 10th at The Holroyd Community Theatre, Weston Rhyn near Oswestry.
