A dedicated fund-raiser in Ellesmere is finalising preparations for another event to support women with breast cancer.
In the past three years, Ismay Evans has raised nearly £9,000 for Breast Cancer Now — and she’s hoping her fourth annual charity shopping evening on Thursday, August 7 will fund more help for those affected by the disease.
Ismay, who runs a women’s-wear shop in the town’s High Street, held her first fund-raiser in 2022, only six months after undergoing a mastectomy at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford following a breast cancer diagnosis.
Next month’s event will be held in Ellesmere’s market hall, between 6.30-pm-10.00 pm with 26 stalls offering a wide range of fashion items, skincare and cosmetic products, craft items, plants and jewellery. There will also be a special display providing health and information about breast cancer.
Admission is £5 to include a glass of wine or a soft drink. Tickets are on sale at Ismay’s shop.
Other local businesses and well-wishers have donated prizes for a giant raffle.
“When I held my first shopping evening for the charity, I thought it would be just a one-off,” said Ismay, “but the people of Ellesmere and district have been so enthusiastic, it’s become a firm fixture as an annual community event in the town’s calendar. I’m very grateful to everyone for their support, and especially for the help I receive from my friends, Janice Williams, Alex Hunter and Jeanette Moore.”
She added: “I know from personal experience how much Breast Cancer Now provides wonderful support for women affected by the disease. With fifty-five thousand UK women being diagnosed every year, it’s important that the charity receives every penny it can get so that it’s able to continue its vital work .”
