ESTABLISHED over 40 years ago, the Shropshire Mind charity offers a non judgmental and diverse range of quality services across the County, either in person or over the telephone, for the one in four people, and their families, acknowledged to be affected by mental or emotional distress

Mind helps to bridge the gap between illness and full independence; some people need support in many areas of their lives, others in just a few, some for long periods of time and others for only a short while.

Whilst funded by sources including the National Lottery, private sponsors, donors and the NHS, Mind is sometimes regarded as a poor relation of the NHS relying heavily on dedicated volunteers with very few paid staff to provide services such as arts & crafts, keep fit, social evenings, breakfast clubs and drop in sessions.

Receiving a cheque for £150 from the Rotary Club of Oswestry’s recent street collection from their Community Chairman Mike Griffiths, Manager Heather Ireland said: “We are lucky to be supported by very many people and we would like to say a great big thank you to them all. Shropshire Mind would not exist if it was not for peoples generosity and thoughtfulness.”

The charity is always looking to recruit new volunteers and anyone interested can call 01743 368647 or visit www.shropshiremind.org.

The Oswestry group meet every Monday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm at The Qube, Oswald Road, Oswestry, SY11 1RB for chat and tea and coffee.
