A summer of cricket is underway in Oswestry with a special festival celebrating women’s cricket, community and culture – and local law firm Lanyon Bowdler is proud to be a supporter.
The Oswestry Women and Girls Festival of Cricket, Culture & Community took place at Oswestry Cricket Club on Saturday 5 July, bringing together players, families and cricket fans for a day of sport and entertainment.
Hosted at the club’s Stonehouse Oval ground on Morda Road, the festival featured women and girls taking part in softball cricket during the morning, before attention turned to the Women’s T20 World Cup Final at Lord’s being shown live on a big screen.
There were also plenty of family-friendly activities throughout the day, making it an event for everyone – from cricket enthusiasts to those simply looking for something different to enjoy with family and friends.
Kate Lawson, of Lanyon Bowdler’s Oswestry office, said the firm was delighted to support an event which celebrated both sporting achievement and community spirit.
“Women’s cricket is growing rapidly, and Oswestry Cricket Club has been at the forefront of that growth locally,” she said.
“The Women and Girls section have enjoyed a very successful run in recent years, winning both County Hardball and County Softball league titles and being named Cricket Shropshire’s Women’s Team of the Year.
“We’re thrilled to sponsor the festival and help to showcase the opportunities available for women and girls to get involved in the sport.”
Jools Payne, team manager of Oswestry WaGs, said support from local businesses was vital to the success of events such as the festival.
“We were thrilled to have the generous support of Lanyon Bowdler,” she said. “Their sponsorship helped us stage a fantastic event which we hope will inspire even more women and girls to pick up a bat and give cricket a try.”
