Since 1996, Nightingale House Hospice’s annual Light Up a Life campaign has offered a meaningful way for people to come together to remember loved ones and celebrate their lives. The campaign invites supporters to dedicate a light in memory of someone special, while helping to fund the vital care and services that the hospice provides to local people and their families.
Christmas is often described as the season of joy, but for many, it is also a season of reflection and remembrance. The twinkling lights, familiar carols, and festive traditions can bring back precious memories of those no longer with us.
Running throughout the autumn and culminating in a moving remembrance service at Nightingale House Hospice on Sunday 7th December, Light Up Life offers a moment of togetherness and comfort at what can be a difficult time of year. Each dedication creates a lasting tribute, with every name included in the hospice’s Book of Honour, a touching record of love, remembrance, and connection that endures year after year.
Elise Jackson, Events and Community Manager at Nightingale House Hospice, said:
“Last year, more than 550 people dedicated a light in memory of someone special, helping raise vital funds for the hospice.
“Their generous support has allowed more patients and families across the hospice’s catchment area to access specialist care, comfort, and emotional support when they need it most.
“Every dedication, no matter the size, plays a part in helping Nightingale House to continue providing outstanding care for people living with life-limiting and progressive conditions.”
Lucy Edwards, Trainee Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care at Nightingale House Hospice, added:
“Light Up a Life is a truly special campaign that reflects the heart of what we do here at the hospice.
“It gives people the chance to remember someone they love in a truly special way.
“Knowing that these dedications also help us care for more patients and families when they need it the most.”
People can dedicate a light to someone special until the end of December. However, to have a name included in the Book of Honour for the remembrance service, dedications must be received by 20th November. Names received after this date will be added to the book at a later time.
