Oswestry-based business owner Vicki Wilson, known professionally as the Vicki Admin Fairy®, has just returned from what she calls “a weekend I never dreamed I’d experience”—one filled with recognition, celebration, and high-level advocacy. From being honoured with a national award to standing in the House of Lords, it was a milestone moment in her entrepreneurial journey.

Vicki is the founder of Vicki Admin Fairy®, a virtual assistant business supporting small businesses across the UK with administrative support, email and diary management, financial admin, social media scheduling, and trademark applications. As a disabled entrepreneur with a background in HMRC and business management, Vicki brings structure, clarity, and compassion to the businesses she supports—especially those led by disabled or neurodivergent founders.

On Thursday 9th May, Vicki attended the Woman Who Achieves Awards at Coombe Abbey Hotel. The awards were founded by Sandra Garlick MBE in 2016 with a mission to create more visible role models for women in business. Now in its 10th year, the awards celebrate female entrepreneurs and leaders from all backgrounds and industries across the UK. Sandra, a former solicitor and now a Business Growth Strategist and mentor, also runs the Woman Who Solopreneur Awards and supports women through her academy, speaker bootcamps, podcast, and radio show. She was awarded an MBE in 2020 for her services to women in business.

To Vicki’s astonishment, she was announced as the winner of the Inspiring Journey Award—a category that recognises those who have overcome significant personal or professional challenges to build successful businesses.

“I was completely shocked and incredibly proud,” said Vicki. “As a disabled entrepreneur, this award isn’t just a personal win—it’s proof that barriers can be broken and that lived experience matters. I hope it inspires others with disabilities to believe in themselves and consider entrepreneurship.”

The remarkable weekend didn’t end there.

On Monday 12th May, Vicki travelled to the House of Lords after receiving a personal invitation from Michelle Ovens CBE, founder of Small Business Britain and co-chair of the Lilac Review. She was invited to attend the launch of the Lilac Review’s Final Report—a major policy initiative dedicated to breaking down the barriers disabled entrepreneurs face in the UK.

Launched in February 2024, the Lilac Review spent 18 months exploring why disabled people—who make up 25% of small business owners—remain underrepresented in areas like finance, procurement, support networks and visibility. The final report presents bold, practical recommendations to ensure that disabled entrepreneurs can thrive not in spite of the system, but because it works for them.

“To be invited into the House of Lords for such an occasion was an honour I’ll never forget,” said Vicki. “It was more than a policy launch—it was a powerful call to action. I felt proud to stand alongside others pushing for real change.”

Reflecting on the weekend, Vicki added:

“Winning a national award and being invite to the House of Lords in Westminster in the same weekend—both recognising my journey and the wider issues disabled entrepreneurs face—was surreal. It’s shown me how far I’ve come, and how much more is still possible. I hope others can see that too.”
