EVERYONE is invited to go along to Oswestry Library between 10.00am and 1.00pm on Saturday 22nd April to take part in a Health Awareness Day organised by The Rotary Club of Oswestry and Oswestry Library to find out more about their own health and meet some of the groups that exist around the town to give advice and support.
The event will be opened by the men from ‘Team Smells Like Toast’ group who will have just returned from their 500 mile sponsored cycle ride from Oswestry to twin-town Combs-la-Ville to raise money for charities including 4 local charities nominated by the Rotary Club.
Building on last year’s success, when over 500 people visited the first joint event, this year will see visitors encouraged to ‘Look After Yourself’. In fact, “The majority of people (92%) feel it is important to take responsibility for their own health to ease the burden on the NHS” (Self-Care Nation November 2016 PAGB) and this event will give people the chance to be proactive and meet groups including the District Nurses, Diabetes Support, Macmillan Nurses, Disability Oswestry, Boots the Chemist, Oswestry Stroke Club, Alzheimer’s Society and Oswestry Deaf & Hard of Hearing Forum and find out more.
As last year, visitors will again have the opportunity to ride the smoothie bike to make themselves a free fruit smoothie under their own pedal power, enjoy a neck or hand massage courtesy of Time for You and have their blood pressure checked. There will also be refreshments available and a prize draw for visitors!
In all 26 groups are expected to attend and will be available to give advice and information but if you think that your group should have been invited or there’s a group that you’d like to see there next year, please email rotarycluboswestry@gmail.com.
So why not ‘Look After Yourself’ and go along to the Library on Saturday 22nd April between 10.00 and 1.00pm?
