For the 3rd year running Oswestry and Cambrian Rotary Club held their Oswald’s Trail event, a 10 or 12.6 mile hike around the beautiful hills and places of interest surrounding Oswestry. The event is held to raise funds for the locally based charity The Movement Centre and is always held on the Sunday nearest to St Oswald’s Day which is August 2nd, this year the same day as the event!
A mixture of runners and walkers took advantage of an early start to get going and beat the heat of the day. A big thanks to St Johns Ambulance volunteers who attended, thankfully no casualties were reported!
As well as taking in the glorious views and sites of interest those that took part were delighted to find at the Racecourse half way point a great selection of cakes, tea, coffee and cold drinks provided by the Movement Centre. A welcome break to have a bit of a rest before tackling the second half was appreciated by all.
Oswald’s Trail was devised by the Oswestry Ramblers Group and their help and presence was really appreciated before and during the event.
Everyone who completed the trail received a certificate and a badge. The local Catholic School Our Lady and St Oswald’s took part in a Rotary competition to design this year’s badge, and the 2026 winner was Isobel. Well done!
Months of planning are involved to put on events like this and the Rotary club would particularly like to thank Neil Ruby Italy Hair and Beauty Ltd for all the printing involved, Oswestry Life Magazine for their continued support, Oswestry Library for allowing us to have a month long display to promote it , and GRUM for all the excellent photos.
Now it’s time to start planning for 2027. Just one question, why were most of the walkers women? It would be great to see a good number of men taking part next year. So put the 1st August in your diary!
