Richard Walker, Concert Director at Shrewsbury’s St Chad’s church has announced programme details of the weekly Friday lunchtime concerts for September.
Richard Walker said: “St Chad’s Concerts in the Round is one of the most successful free weekly concert series in the country, with over 150 attending most weeks. For many of our audience, Friday is ‘St Chad’s Day’ – and nothing is allowed to get in the way of that! We begin the autumn with a recital for horn and piano on September 4th. The horn sounds really exciting in this building, so take the opportunity to hear it. The last concert for this combination at St Chad’s was in 2013. Majiami Walker is accompanied by her father, Allan Walker, who is one of the regular organ recitalists at St Chad’s.
The following week, September 11th sees the annual concert by music scholars of Shrewsbury School, showcasing some of their most talented performers. On September 18th international cellist Ulrich Heinen with pianist John Humphreys will play one of Bach’s gamba sonatas and Prokofiev’s cello sonata in C major – one of the major works in the cello repertoire, and not previously played in this series. The month ends with an organ recital by Simon Hogan, Organist of Southwark Cathedral on September 25th.
Details and weekly programmes for these concerts can be found on the St Chad’s Church website. Concerts are free of charge and there is lunch after each. Collections are taken to cover expenses.
