Preparations are well underway for the second Marches School Oswestry 10k which will take place on Sunday February 27th.

Ray Pickett from Oswestry Olympians said: The Marches School Oswestry 10k was introduced to mark the 40th anniversary of Oswestry Olympians. The club has a thriving junior and senior membership with people of all abilities taking part.

“The first race was started by the former Mayor of Oswestry, Councillor John Price.   500 runners entered the 10k road race around the historic town streets, and he was there to welcome the finishers home. Our first winner was Sean Merryweather representing Wrexham Amateur Athletic Club in an impressive 33 minutes & 43 seconds. Our first lady home, and 11th overall, was our own Bethan Jones in an equally impressive 39 minutes & 50 seconds.

“The race is run on closed roads around the town and there will be a children’s fun run beforehand. The Mayor of Oswestry Councillor Mark Jones will start the race. We are grateful for the support of the Marches School for hosting us, particularly Karen Faux and Hayley Alldridge for their help.

“We were particularly pleased with the support of the community for our first run and hope to see them out on the streets once again cheering on the runners. If anybody would like to help on the day we would be pleased to hear from you.”
