Morda Primary School has received a £10,000 grant from the Wesleyan Foundation and a huge donation from Jewsons in Oswestry to transform an area of their playground.

Over time, part of the playground became unusable for the children with overgrown trees and uneven ground. So, on 9 October, Andy Banks from Jewson and both Wesleyan and Practice Plan (owned by Wesleyan) colleagues volunteered to start the work, spending the day at the school, building, painting, digging and regenerating the area.

Head of School, Helen Chapman explained, “The updated area will be calm, safe and a peaceful outdoor learning space. This will be especially important for the children with sensory needs who find the playground overwhelming and too loud. Classes will be able to work outside and use the space. All who have come to help today have been amazing.”

The Y6 school council, Holly, Imogen, Benj and Jac came out to inspect the ongoing works and show support for the volunteers. They helped design how they wanted the area to be used and how they wanted it to look.

The school wish to thank Andy Banks from Jewsons who donated the membrane for the ground and all the wood chipping. He also took the time to remove the old, loose surface and prep it, saving the school a lot of time.

The school also thanks the Wesleyan Group, because without the grant, the school wouldn’t have been able to make improvements to the space due to the soaring costs of materials and manpower.

Jacob Ayre, Community & Citizenship Manager at Wesleyan said, “At Wesleyan, we’re passionate about supporting education and helping young people reach their full potential. Morda School plays a vital role in the local community, and we’re thrilled that the Wesleyan Foundation’s donation can help them continue providing a positive, nurturing environment for their pupils.”
