Moreton Hall Nursery, near Oswestry, is launching a new series of free weekly ‘Stay and Play’ sessions for children aged 3–4, giving families a relaxed, welcoming way to sample nursery life in its Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ (2023) setting.

Running every Wednesday during term time, 10.30am–12.00pm, each session combines an engaging music session led by a specialist teacher, a lively phonics activity, and time for children to explore and play in the Nursery’s Early Years playground.

The sessions build on the Nursery’s community-focused approach, following the success of its free local Buggy Walks, and are designed to offer high-quality early years experiences in a warm, family-centred environment.

Music is a key feature of the programme, supporting early communication and listening skills at a crucial stage of development. Singing, rhythm games and musical play help children tune into sounds, patterns and syllables, foundations that naturally complement early phonics and language learning, while also encouraging confidence, coordination and turn-taking.

Deborah Speakman, Head of Moreton Hall Prep, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome local families into Moreton Hall Nursery for our new Stay and Play sessions. Early years should feel joyful, purposeful and full of discovery, and music is a wonderful way to spark curiosity, build listening skills and help children develop the confidence to join in.”

Moreton Hall’s nursery sits within 100 acres of Shropshire parkland and forms part of the wider award-winning independent school. The nursery’s recent expansion (from September 2025) increased the number of places available to local families, with children benefiting from an enriched curriculum taught by specialists, alongside the core Early Years Foundation Stage. Children also enjoy access to wider school facilities, including the Holroyd Community Theatre, and take part in trips and visits with the Reception class.

Booking is essential as places are limited.
