Music MOB is a great local success story and invites people to join the existing Trustees to help take the work forward.
Since October 2021 Music MOB, Oswestry’s children’s charity, has been providing vocal and instrumental tuition, instrument loan and other equipment to children in the local area completely free of charge. It became clear to the charity founders that the musical opportunities they had enjoyed in childhood are no longer available through the state education system although he benefits of learning music are many and varied. Music MOB determined to offer this opportunity but strip away barriers by providing the funds itself to teach children who would otherwise have limited access to music tuition.
During Covid, plans were hatched, the charity was formed and after a shout-out to the local community for unwanted instruments, in October 2021 music professionals started teaching 24 children in one local primary school. Over the years Music MOB has formed partnerships with other primary schools and more teachers and now employs 10 teachers who teach 120 children in 7 schools.
The variety of instruments now offered includes strings, woodwind, brass, guitar, drums as well as voice.
The children are encouraged to perform within their school environment in assemblies and concerts and each year are invited to take part in the Oswestry Youth Music Festival. Over the years the children have been offered other very exciting opportunities such as an Orchestra Day at the Marches Academy, a Masterclass followed by performance with professional musicians at the Whittington Festival, Beginners’ Concerts and a cameo performance during the Fron Choir’s Charity Christmas Concert.
All the lessons, equipment, books and instrument loan are provided free through the kind donations of individuals, groups, institutions and trusts.
There are currently five enthusiastic Trustees, all living in the area. The charity has plans for further development of its music tuition but in order to achieve the variety and scope of its provision it needs some specialist Trustees. Music MOB would like to welcome a classroom teacher and a music teacher to its Trustee Board in order to carry forward its exciting expansion plans.
If you would like further information about this and would like to chat to one of the Trustees then please contact the charity through our website www.musicmob.co.uk
