A Shropshire company has launched a new tool designed to help painters and decorators save time, stay organised and improve profits.

Nigel Stephens, who has worked in the construction industry across Shropshire and Mid Wales for more than 20 years, formed Paint Manager Ltd after spotting a common problem among painters and decorators.

The software makes it easy to create quotes, invoices and manage job costs in one place, while also supporting businesses preparing for Making Tax Digital requirements.

Nigel said the Paint Manager system had been created specifically for self-employed decorators and small decorating businesses who were tired of juggling paperwork, spreadsheets and manual quoting systems while trying to run jobs day-to-day.

The idea for the platform came to him after seeing first-hand how many decorators were losing time on admin and, in many cases, underpricing work without realising it.

He said: “I have worked in the construction industry for years and kept seeing the same issue – good decorators doing great work but struggling with the business side of things because they simply don’t have the time.

“A lot of people are still using handwritten notes, spreadsheets or bits of paper to quote and invoice jobs. Paint Manager was created to make things simpler and help decorators understand exactly what jobs are costing them and what they’re actually making.

“It’s completely free to give it a try – people can create up to five quotes under the free plan, and there is a demo on the website which explains how it works.”

Unlike generic accounting or business software, Paint Manager has been built specifically with decorators in mind, focusing on simple, practical tools that are easy to use on busy working days.

Nigel added: “This isn’t about overcomplicated software. It’s about giving decorators a straightforward tool that saves them time, helps them stay organised and ultimately helps them earn more from the work they’re already doing.

“It’s free for the first five quotes and subscriptions range from £19.99 to £39.99 a month, so it is an affordable package. We hope it will prove to be a useful addition for lots of painters and decorators in Shropshire and beyond.”
