A new Welsh book festival, Gŵyl Oswallt, will take place in Oswestry this spring, bringing together authors, readers and the local community to celebrate Welsh literature, language and culture.

Taking place on Saturday 11 April 2026 at Oswestry Memorial Hall, the festival will run from 10am to 4pm and is free to attend.

Organised by Siop Cwlwm, the Welsh bookshop based in Oswestry, the event aims to create a welcoming and inclusive space for people of all backgrounds to enjoy Welsh books — whether they are fluent Welsh speakers, learners, or simply curious.

Visitors can expect a full day of activity including author talks, readings, book signings, and the opportunity to browse and buy a wide range of Welsh books.

A diverse line-up of Welsh authors will appear, including Dafydd Andrews, Lleucu Siôn, Stephen Rule, Jack Hunter, Myfanwy Alexander, Eurig Salisbury, Eleanor Burnham, Simon Brooks, Rebecca Roberts and Non Parry.

In addition to the main programme, some authors will be running optional workshops for a small fee, offering visitors the chance to take part in more in-depth sessions.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day, provided by Ceiriog Catering.

Speaking about the event, organiser Lowri Roberts of Siop Cwlwm said:

“Gŵyl Oswallt is about celebrating reading and culture in a way that feels open and accessible to everyone.
We want people to feel welcome whether they speak Welsh every day or are just beginning their journey with the language.”

She added:

“There is something special about bringing authors and readers together in one space.
We’re excited to create a cultural event here in Oswestry that people can return to year after year.”

The festival is supported by partners including Menter Iaith Maldwyn and Shropshire Libraries, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting Welsh language and culture in the area.
