Nightingale House Hospice, in partnership with Welsh Water, welcomed patients and carers to its inaugural Winter Wellbeing event on Friday 7th November, held in the hospice’s Bradbury Atrium.
The drop-in event offered residents a one-stop shop for practical advice and support to help them stay safe, healthy, and connected this winter.
Patients and carers had the opportunity to meet a wide range of statutory and third sector organisations, as well as the hospice’s own team, to access information on topics including winter fuel allowance, energy tariffs, financial wellbeing, welfare rights, support for unpaid carers, and local health and wellbeing services.
Attendees were able to speak with representatives from organisations including NEWCIS, Hafren Dyfrdwy, Citizens Advice, North Wales Police PCSOs, NEST / Warm Wales, Groundwork Wales, North Wales Fire & Rescue Service, and Dŵr Cymru (Welsh Water). Many took advantage of practical support, such as home safety devices, energy efficiency advice, and guidance on managing bills and benefits.
The event received a positive response from attendees, who praised the convenience of having multiple organisations under one roof and the range of advice available.
Jackie Rowley, Family Support Team Lead at Nightingale House, said:
“Our goal was to bring together a range of organisations to support patients, families, and carers with practical advice, from managing finances and home safety to accessing hospice services, making life a little easier during the winter months.
“The event was a real success, with many attendees reporting significant savings and finding valuable support.
“It was a truly fabulous event, and one I hope we can deliver again in the future.”
An anonymous attendee said:
“I found the event very helpful to understand and learn about what my family could be intitled to and the support that is there for me as a carer and my partner who is ill.
“When you are in a situation like this you can often feel very alone and like there is nowhere to turn but this event showed me that there is a lot of help out there which is invaluable to our family and others in a similar situation.
“This event was a wonderful idea and a great opportunity to speak with people from organisations who have support in place for people like us all in one place.”
The Winter Wellbeing Information Day highlights Nightingale House Hospice’s commitment to supporting patients and families, ensuring they have access to the advice and services they need to stay well during the colder months.
