Nightingale House Hospice is inviting people across Wrexham, Flintshire, East Denbighshire, Barmouth and the border towns to take part in its cherished Light Up a Life campaign this festive season. The campaign offers an opportunity to dedicate a light in memory of someone special, with each dedication recorded as a tribute in the 2025 Book of Honour. Every donation helps the hospice continue providing vital care for people living with life limiting and progressive illnesses, as well as compassionate support for their families.

Light Up a Life is a moment of remembrance, reflection and togetherness at a time of year that can feel particularly difficult. By dedicating a light, supporters not only honour the memory of loved ones, they also help Nightingale House care for more patients and offer comfort to families throughout their bereavement journey.

This year’s services will take place on Sunday, 7th December, in the grounds of the hospice. A gentle children’s service will be held at 2pm, offering a family friendly space with memory crafts. This will be followed by a reflective adult service at 4pm beneath the Tree of Lights, where guests can share moments of connection alongside music, seasonal stalls and quiet contemplation.

Deputy Ward Manager Debbie Griffiths said: “Light Up a Life is very close to our hearts because it shows the strength of our community and the love that people carry for those they miss.

“Every dedication and every donation helps us be there for more families when they need us.

“It means we can support patients to live the way they choose, right to the end, from symptom management to creating special moments at the end of life.

“We’ve helped patients celebrate weddings, enjoy their favourite meals, relax in our spa bath with a glass of champagne, and even arrange family sleepovers.

“These moments bring comfort and dignity, and they are only possible because of the generosity of the people who support campaigns like this one.”

Deputy Ward Manager Bethan Jones added:

“The donations from Light Up a Life help us provide care that goes far beyond clinical support.

“They help us offer families a safe place to spend precious time together, including overnight stays and quiet moments that they will remember forever.

“They also allow our Family Support Team to continue their vital work, ensuring that loved ones are supported through their grief in the months and years to come.

“When people choose to dedicate a light, they are giving other families the chance to make memories that they will never forget.”

By taking part in Light Up a Life, supporters ensure that Nightingale House Hospice can continue providing specialist care, comfort and compassion to local families at some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
