Oswestry-based author Frasier Armitage is helping a new generation of authors discover the world of indie publishing as part of the team bringing a new fantasy and sci-fi book event to Shropshire.

As well as co-running the event, Frasier will be appearing as a speaker at Spotlight Indie Live 2026, a unique one-day celebration dedicated exclusively to independent authors and indie fiction, taking place on 23rd May 2026 at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings in Shrewsbury.

One of the only UK events focused entirely on indie authors and independent fiction, Spotlight Indie Live brings together writers, readers and creative professionals to celebrate fantasy, science fiction, horror and speculative fiction. The event is completely free to attend.

Frasier, author of ‘A Cage of Stars’ and other works will be joining a lineup of writers and industry experts to share their author experiences with aspiring writers and readers as part of the panel lineups scheduled throughout the day.

The event takes place at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, home to the historic Dye House. Built in the 18th century, the Flaxmill is widely known as the “grandfather of the modern skyscraper” due to its pioneering iron-frame construction, which later influenced the development of modern skyscraper architecture.

In addition to talks and panels, the event will feature a Traders’ Market showcasing signed books, merchandise and original artwork from independent creators.

Live performances by Spellbound Immersive Productions will bring stories to life through interactive storytelling and performances, as their travelling group of bardic storytellers moves throughout the event. The event will be hosted by The Shropshire DM, returning as MC and event guide for panels and Q&A sessions.
