Get ready for a fantastic weekend of colour, entertainment and family-friendly fun as the Oswestry Balloon Carnival returns to Cae Glas Park on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August 2026.
Bringing a weekend of colour, entertainment and family-friendly fun back to the heart of the town, the much-loved event promises something for all ages, with a packed programme of activities, performances and attractions throughout the weekend.
Organised in association with Nightingale House Hospice, Oswestry Town Council and Oswestry BID, this annual event has become a firm fixture in Oswestry’s calendar, attracting visitors from across the region while raising vital funds for hospice care.
Taking place at Cae Glas Park, Oswestry, SY11 1AP, the carnival is renowned for creating a vibrant festival atmosphere where families can enjoy a fun-filled day out together. While hot air balloons remain an iconic part of the event, there is so much more to experience across the weekend, ensuring plenty of entertainment whatever the weather.
Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of attractions around the field, including a selection of stalls offering food, drink and unique items to purchase, alongside a fun fair that is sure to delight younger visitors and thrill-seekers alike.
One of the highlights of the weekend takes place on Saturday evening at 9pm, when visitors can experience the spectacular Night Glow. Weather permitting, tethered hot air balloons will illuminate Cae Glas Park in a breathtaking after-dark display, lighting up in time to a specially choreographed musical soundtrack. Combining colour, light and atmosphere, this magical event transforms the park into a glowing outdoor stage and has become a firm favourite with visitors of all ages.
Family favourites will return on both days, including the ever-popular Punch and Judy show, bringing plenty of laughs and traditional fun. Visitors will also have the chance to meet some very special guests through the alpaca walkabouts, while younger children can immerse themselves in imaginative play at the Dinky Street Pop-Up, an all-day, drop-in play experience designed especially for younger audiences.
Adding even more magic to the carnival atmosphere, The Marvellous Magical Miniature Theatre, where Magic Alex will perform highly interactive family friendly tricks, amazing visitors around the park. There will also be Mighty Smith the Strongman, a traditional Strongman show, which is sure to be an exciting watch for the whole family.
Those keen to learn new skills can join the Circus Skills Drop-In Workshops, hosted by Entertainment Inc on Saturday and Short Scruffs Theatre Co on Sunday, where aspiring performers can try their hand at a range of circus activities.
Sports fans can test their abilities at the TNS Shootout and Darts Stand, while Saturday visitors can also enjoy a host of spectacular walkabout entertainment, including stilt walkers, jugglers and acrobatic performers, creating surprises and photo opportunities throughout the park.
Whether you’re enjoying the live entertainment, browsing the stalls, spending time at the fun fair, meeting the alpacas, or simply relaxing with family and friends in the beautiful surroundings of Cae Glas Park, the Oswestry Balloon Carnival offers a memorable summer day out for everyone.
