With just over a week until the big day, the Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Sleigh and Santa have covered the roads and streets in Oswestry, St Martins, West Felton, Whittington, Park Hall and a number of static sites including B&M Bargains, The Cross and in Coney Green.

Because of the pandemic regulations this year, Cambrian Rotary decided it would focus on trying to put smiles on kids and still herald in the Christmas spirit rather than raise money for the local community.

This has been achieved by have a ‘Santa Sleigh Drive By’ on their usual routes, so that kids can still wave at Santa from the road edge, gate or window, but still let children see Santa at static sites at Supermarkets. No door-to-door collections.

Buckets are available for people to put money in but it is expected that this year’s collection will be less than 20% of last years bumper collection.

The routes are available on their “Oswestry Santa Sleigh” Facebook page, and each night they are out they switch on their tracker details so people can see where they are.   They will have music playing so hopefully you will hear the sleigh in your area. Please remember the tracker is reliant upon a mobile phone signal that can be difficult in some areas.

This year they will have a “Just Giving page” available from the clubs website, and they have a 70085 text number for people to be able to donate to the Santa collection. For the first time they have a 30 minute Zoom Santa on an evening when Santa is having a rest away from the Sleigh.  Next one is 6.00pm on 19th December.

Cambrian Rotary would normally meet informally at The Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, Oswestry on Thursday evenings and will be again when regulations and guidelines allow.
